Dear Mrs Loh

It's the end of another school year and once again, I would like to thank the teachers who have been such a blessing to my daughters, Heather and Hazel Chen, in K1and Playgroup respectively.

My family speaks mainly English at home. Yet Heather has shown commendable improvement in her language skills. She could tell me the "pian pang" of certain characters on her own accord, and uses difficult words like "您打断了我的故事". More importantly, she has a healthy interest in the language and writes Chinese characters for fun on the whiteboard at home. I have heard stories of how parents spent a lot of money on private tuition/enrichment yet see no improvement in their children's mastery of the Chinese language. In the case of Heather, without any extra help in Chinese, I can only conclude that it is the excellent use of sound padagogy by Huang Lao Shi that has made such a difference to her. On another note, I have also seen how Heather suddenly became well-mannered in front of Huang Lao Shi, and I believe it was because she taught the children to show respect to their elders.

Teacher Nesa is an excellent English teacher for the K1 class. Her love for the children is evident in how she patiently teaches them and take care of their physical needs. She provides a loving and nurturing environment for the children, that is so critical for this age group. She encourages them to love learning; for instance, when the children expressed interest, she made paper machie planets for them to paint and hung them in the classroom. She is one of those who were truly born to teach, and we were so glad to have her as Heather's teacher for 2 years.

I have also personally witnessed how Huang Lao Shi and Teacher Nesa used positive reinforcement to encourage good behaviour, such as showing examples of good drawing to motivate children to draw well, rather than pointing out children who did not do so well.

As for Hazel, she only started school half a year ago but she already loves going to My First Skool. My mother commented on how good her colouring has become just after half a year of structured learning. She sang different songs to herself at bedtime each night, which she had learnt from school. She paid the school a high compliment two weeks ago when I asked if she would like to change school, and she confidently replied "No".

Please convey our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Teacher Nesa, Huang Lao Shi, Mdm Wong, Guo Lao Shi and all the teachers who have taught Heather and Hazel.

We have also benefitted from the many wonderful programmes that the school had organised for the children. The outing to Qian Hu Fish Farm and the Kids-in-charge event at Jurong Central Park were wonderful opportunities for parent-child bonding. The enrichment acitivities in school during the afternoon has exposed Heather to many interesting subjects. Thank you.

Warm regards
Rebecca Chen (Mrs)
